Deepwater horizon in the Arctic?

Where those who would live of exploiting the ignorance of others disingenuously espouse one ‘belief system’ or other, the children of the future have learned to adopt a ‘knowledge system’, based on science, not ‘belief’.  We reject magical and wishful thinking, leaving them to children and people with fragile or vulnerable minds, challenged by complex thought process, ill-equipped for painstaking study, research, examination of the evidence.

Yet it is these people, whose limited cognitive capacity marks their genealogies for future deletion from the evolutionary database of planet Earth, seek to “lead”, they aspire to “preach”, “teach” and harangue us.

We, the generation charged with the responsibility of deciding our children’s future, cannot afford to base our action, political agenda or activism on such muddled thinking.  We must seek out the best available science, projection and forecast, engage with academia and openly, sometimes humbly ask for its help in understanding the more impenetrable research findings.

We are also left to do battle with troglodyte superstitions, the deep distrust of science as the death of the gods, that leaves the primitive mind in a terror of darkness, rudderless and utterly lost.  There can be no place for such childish belief systems in near-future Earth, if ALL species are to survive the millennial, ignorant tinkering of humanity on a vast scale.

The people whose Ethos is scientific rigour, whose vows were made in the arcane code of DNA, must comb and gauge the data, processed it into information and understand for ourselves what sustainability is, how it works, where we come into it, what we must do, in the first person, as well as communally.

Regrettably, when humanity chose the path of Parasitism, it encouraged the likes of Lord Monkton who, like all parasites, breed, spreading infections.

From Agricultural Revolution to the enclosure, the clearances, colonialism… though we had learned to grow enough from the soil, we retained a hunter’s taste for meat, a savage taste for enslaving others of our species.  Now the likes of Clarkson add the taste for oil, profligcy of a Carbon-hungry lifestyle, the “right to drive” is added to “the right to gnaw”.

Life is easy when you can get someone/thing else to do the work for you, fuelling the dream-inducing state, the illusory power of a Virtual Reality – more convincing than the surrounding, stark daylight, the cold and fear of cold night.  Thus even soft, lumbering Clarkson can cover millions of miles, though he might scarcely manage one, on his own feeble legs!

Technology leads you to the edge of human imagination, plugs you in and sets up a mass escape route, a Matrix.   Cars, computers, mobile ‘phones seduce three generations across the globe into a state of dependence that weakens and befuddles, leaving them unfit, listless, incapable of independent thought or action, all must first be trialled in VR, television plots driving children to heinous assault on one another, on animals, on anyone too weak to fight back;.

Children, babies, women, elders.. all sacrificed in secret, by abuse, by a deeper sense of fear than any dark, stormy night could evoke: the fear of non-existence, the fear of virtual monsters that have made their homes in the weakened mind.

To underpin the virtual status, an augmented strength, a sense of omnipotence born from servomotors, servo brakes… no real strength, just violence against the weak.

So this paradigm of utter reliance on the status quo threatens to gut humanity like a fish, its competitive edge now so blunted by millennial success and the absence of competitors that most city-dwellers wouldn’t last a week in the wild and many tourists die every year of nothing more than sheer ignorance and idiocy…

Climate Change is the first of several pressing issues that will awaken Homo sapiens to its limited choices. Loss of biodiversity may be the next, but perhaps it is nothing more than a minor adjustment, a monitoring feedback parameter, in a raft of senses that trigger planetary immuno-response.

Even as Climate Change Denial gathers their uncomprehending rank and file to figh COP15, I see the future sharply outlined: renewables or a return to Cro Magnon! Climate Change Deniers ARE Cro Magnon, and Gaia tolerates  evolution to travel in either direction… from monkey to ape to human… and back again.

CCDs are the living proof! 

Over only a few millennia, mostly white men have expended stupendous levels of energy and effort to develop technologies from their humble beginnings in early agriculture to a level of automation that, ideally at least, would eventually mean that we (well.. they, really) would scarcely have to work at all to live in unbridled luxury.  The burden of that work would pass ot automated machines, hordes of factory workers – mostly yellow, brown and black – and, when it came to all the fiddly, dirty or boring jobs, an entourage of their own women, peasants and peasant women.  All this resting on the enslavement of animals, to feed the greed for their flesh and fur that modern humans see as their birthright.

We begun with production of commercial goods, then progressed to transport, to move them more easily around the globe, whence we would then one day travel ourselves, by ship, train, car and aeroplane, to enjoy the leisure time we had gained: the “holiday” and use it to indulged a newfangled form of amusement, called “tourism”.

So… how many ppm Co2, CH4 and H2O will it take to throw the fragile ecosphere into chaotic disorder, making agriculture fail, transport  impossible and industry irrelevant?

It would appear that humanity is intent on finding out!
